Which way shall we go? Tom and Mel check out the top section of one of the three bowls that make up Kicking Horse. Kicking Horse is only a couple of hours or so from Banff in, (I think!), the Northern Purcells.
In we go. The resort has some great terrain - a lot of it easily accessed from the lifts. Although it had been a while since new snow, we found enough chalky stuff to keep us happy.
Always seem to end up hiking somewhere when I'm with Tom - even when we are inbounds...
Huey three o'clock!! Or nine o'clock - depends which side of the gondola you're sitting on. This chopper will be operating for one of the local Heli-skiing operations - made a great noise as it made a few passes over the saddle.
This shot is looking back across the Rocky Mountain Trench. You can see the base area just below the trees and the town of Golden sitting below the Rockies on the other side of the Trench.
Tom and Mel check out the top section of the CPR ridge which divides two of the bowls and is marked as a run! The pooch is Mel's dog Red, an avalanche rescue dog who works up at Sunshine with Mel on Ski Patrol. She tagged along for the last run of the day.
The ridge made for some interesting skiing - there are some great chutes off either side that must be outstanding in good condition.
While the ridge gave us some some great views, we needed to keep an eye on the signage.
Back on the groomed run and its time to take care of Red's feet.
Do dogs get embarrassed? Red really doesn't enjoy this - but the hard pack is tough on her feet. By this time of the day I'd have been happy to trade with her.
